Tenjin Tutoring is the creation of lifelong Park Slope residents and friends, Ryan deLorge and Steven Sullivan. Initially developed as a submission for the Brooklyn Public Library PowerUP competition, Tenjin Tutoring was born out of a desire to assist students to achieve admissions offers from the best schools to allow them to pursue a course of study that positions them strategically for their desired careers. Ryan is a local entrepreneur. Steven is a former NYC public school teacher and private tutor. Tenjin Tutoring’s curriculum was developed in consultation with Barbara Hubert, PhD ABD and Special Education Curriculum Specialist at New Visions for Public Schools.
The decision of a parent to hire a company to prepare their child for a high stakes test comes down to confidence and trust. We acknowledge that there is a sacred component to the work we do. Accordingly, we named our company with spirituality in mind. In the Shinto religion of Japan, Tenjin is the phenomena of scholarship and learning, and is regarded particularly important in passing entrance exams.
